Pass the Popcorn!

Is your book discussion group getting a little stale? Why not schedule a book-to-film discussion? Come together for a discussion of one of these READS-TO-GO titles one week, then rent or borrow the DVD and meet again to view it and compare it to the book:

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Sijie Dai. The movie was directed by the author.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. The film stars Dermot Mulroney and Gretchen Mol.

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. The movie was filmed in New York and Calcutta, India.

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. This animated flick features the voices of Sean Penn and Gena Rowlands.

If your group doesn't want to view a film, pick a book that hasn't yet been filmed, and in your discussions, decide who should play the main characters if it were being filmed. It's a surefire way of getting a discussion going!

Don't forget to serve popcorn--everything goes better with popcorn!
