Discussion Companions

Sometimes a group likes to explore more than one point of view on a subject, or likes to further explore a topic. Here are a few titles to combine with some of our RTG kits:

Kit: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time: A Novel by Mark Haddon.
Companion reading: Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's by John Elder Robinson.
Haddon's book is a work of fiction about a teen with autism. Robinson's is an autobiographical look at a person who has Asperger's (a form of autism).

Kit: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen.
Companion reading: Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman.
Both these novels are about women who possess extra-ordinary powers.

Kit: A Girl Named Zippy: Growing Up Small in Mooreland, Indiana by Haven Kimmel.
Companion reading: She Got Up Off the Couch: And Other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Indiana by Haven Kimmel.
The second book continues Kimmel's story of her childhood and focuses on her mother.

Kit: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.
Companion reading: The Keeper's Son by Homer H. Hickam.
Two novels of World War II and citizen interaction with the enemy.

Kit: Lobster Chronicles: Life on a Very Small Island by Linda Greenlaw.
Companion reading: Stern Men by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Island living and lobstermen--real and fictional.
